The Open Education Global 2020 conference: Connecting the global open education community

The Open Education Global 2020 conference took place online on November 16-20. The Open Education Global conference is the most internationally diverse conference devoted exclusively to open education, attracting researchers, practitioners, policy makers, educators and students to discuss and explore how open education advances educational practices around the world. This year’s conference was held online, featuring a packed programme across multiple time zones. Presenters from 36 countries delivered 183 sessions, the recordings of which amount to 55 hours of viewing.

Alexander Mikroyannidis (The Open University, UK) delivered a hands-on workshop entitled “Decentralising Open Education Using Blockchain Technology”. The workshop explored the different aspects of open education that are affected by decentralisation. Participants had the opportunity to try out and evaluate the tools offered by the QualiChain project for the Blockchain-based award and verification of education and employment qualifications. The outcomes of this workshop will provide useful feedback for the QualiChain pilot led by Alexander.
